Description
This middle 1800's rarity represents one of the earliest mechanical, spark-ignited cigar lighters to receive a patent. Assuming te form of an ancient egyptial lamp with Paroah's mask and coiled cobra snake handles, it is crafted of solid copper alloy and measures 2 1/2" tall x 7" x 4" overall. The aesthetic design is really sophisticated and the mechanical design is fascinating: squeezing the two snakes together causes the iron wheel inside to advance one space. Each spot on the wheel had a patented volatile cap that wouold be exposed to a flint spark near the front of the lamp and the hole in the middle gave access to the flame for lighting a stogie. It has no volatile caps (thank goodness) and the mechanical wheel advances nicely when the cobras are squeezed. It has minor bends and wear (nose of the Pharoah) and antique bronze tarnished patina. It bears worn patent and maker's mark on the bottom.WE ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO SHIP WORLDWIDE IF ALLOWED BY USPS. Please contact for international shipping cost quote.
